Happy Tail: Abby

Red Collar Pet

Abby

I met Abby (formerly Gerry) while volunteering at Animal Friends.  When I first saw this little 8 lb. poodle, she just broke my heart.  After learning that she was 15 yrs old, I just kept thinking, who is going to adopt a 15-year-old dog?  After talking it over with my husband, we decided that if she was still at Animal Friends the next time we went there, we would adopt her.  Fortunately for us, she was still there and we adopted her that day.

Abby has many health problems, but she never stops wagging her tail and loves giving everyone kisses.  She has come a long way in the two months we have had her.  She’s more alert and even has a little spring to her step.  She loves to be held and petted.  She also loves naptime and eating!  Must be all the home cooked food she is getting!  She has fit in quite well with my other two dogs has even started following them around.

There are so many benefits in adopting an older animal.  They seem to be so thankful that they can live out the rest of their lives with people that love them.  When the time is right, I would definitely adopt another older dog.

We are so thankful to have Abby in our lives.  She will be loved and taken care of for the rest of her days (and hopefully years!)
