License your dog: it's the law!

At Animal Friends, we understand that losing a beloved pet or finding a lost pet can be a very daunting experience. If you lost your best friend, first 24-48 hours are the most critical when your pet is lost. Knowing where to turn, and contacting the right facility quickly, is critical to saving your lost pet's life.

If your lost or found pet was originally from Animal Friends, please call 412.847.7000 and ask the operator to page the adoption team.

If you have lost your pet:

  1. Download this document and call the animal control facilities that service your neighborhood.

  2. Notify your local police department.

  3. Register your lost pet with Animal Friends' Lost and Found department by calling 412.847.7077.

  4. Notify the other two local shelters, the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society at 412.321.4625 and the Animal Rescue League at 412.661.6452.

  5. Be sure to let your neighbors and local vet offices know you are missing your pet. It is also helpful to post fliers with a photo throughout your area.

If you have found a pet:

Please contact the local shelters and the local police. You may also want to post flyers and walk through your neighborhood to ask neighbors if they recognize the animal. If you can't hold onto the animal, you should call your local animal control.

Tag and License Your Pet!

Don't let your pet become a statistic. Make sure that all of your pets have an appropriate collar, identification tag and license on at all times. You should purchase a license for your dog every year - it's the best $8 you may ever spend, and it's the law!
