Tours during the school day

Registration requests for tours held during the school day can be emailed to Dana Schultz, Education Coordinator, at dschultz@ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org

Tours and presentations held at Animal Friends during the day are offered on Monday - Friday between 11:30 and 12:45 from October through mid-May. Please submit your request at least two weeks in advance.

Please email after Labor Day to inquire about a tour for the fall of 2016.

Click here to read our Shelter Tour Guidelines before requesting your tour.

We are happy to offer multiple dates to a group if they would like to complete subsequent lessons and activities about responsible pet care, positive-based training, dog body language, etc.

Tuition for tours during the school day:

• One item per student from our supply drive list (click here!)
• Monetary donations are not required but are most welcome via our Kind Kids program. Kind Kids get to name an animal for every $75 donated.

Tours after school or on Saturdays

Please note that our after-school and Saturday time slots are in great demand. A $20 non-refundable deposit is now required to schedule your group for an after-school or Saturday time slot.

Each time slot can accommodate up to 30 students. Groups of less than 30 students will be sharing their time slot with other groups.

Click here to read our Shelter Tour Guidelines before requesting your tour.

Guidelines for after-school and Saturday programs:

  • Groups must attend with a number of children and chaperones that is indicated within the range of their reservation. We are unable to accommodate more chaperones than the number indicated below.
o Groups of 5-20 students must bring 2-5 chaperones.
o Groups of 21-30 students must bring 3-9 chaperones.

  • School-age siblings are welcome to attend as long as the number of children attending is within the range indicated for the reservation.
  • We offer dates/times based upon room availability, group size, and volunteer availability.
  • We are unable to accommodate groups’ requests to attend on dates/times of their own choosing when requesting an after-school or Saturday reservation.
  • Please note that Saturday time slots in particular fill very quickly!  We have limited offerings of AF 127 on Saturdays because our Saturdays are bustling with scout events, Kids’ Club, children’s birthday parties, seasonal events, and dog-training classes for the public.

Groups of 1-12 students may schedule a free, 30 minute Donation Drop-off Appointment by visiting www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org/HelpingTheAnimals. The appointment includes a guided tour, certificate, and photo opportunity (but not a dog safety lesson or petting opportunity).

Tuition for tours after school or on Saturdays:
• Required at the time of reservation: non-refundable $20 deposit to hold your time slot
• Requested the day of the visit: One item per student from our supply drive list (click here!)
