Pets for Vets Pittsburgh at Animal Friends

Our first match! We're thrilled to announce our first match as the official Pittsburgh Chapter of Pets for Vets. Click here to read Don and Louie's story.

For veterans living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), this comprehensive program provides them with a trained, emotional support companion animal. Each pet is personally matched to a veteran based on personality and lifestyle. Once the perfect pet is selected for the veteran, the pet then spends time in the home of our certified Pets for Vets trainer who teaches basic obedience and other valuable behaviors needed to live with their new guardian. This can include becoming comfortable with wheelchairs or behaviors needed to help with PTSD and TBI.

There is absolutely no charge to the veteran for this service. Their fully trained new pet will also be current on vaccines, spayed/neutered and microchipped for additional identification. A customized welcome package of supplies, complete with a lifetime Allegheny County dog license is also included.
