’43 Friends

We all know that Pittsburgh has been named one of the country’s most up-and-coming cities. So, to celebrate the success of our hometown and to honor Animal Friends’ historic founding in 1943, ’43 Friends was created. This program engages philanthropic Pittsburghers who love animals, have a passion for animal welfare and want to support Animal Friends’ mission.

These compassionate people come with a myriad of community work and professional accomplishments, while sharing one very important trait: they are incredible animal lovers. And, through their hard work (and help of the pets who inspire them!) they’re making our region a better place for our four-legged friends.

From May through September, these passionate supporters will serve as ambassadors for Animal Friends throughout the region by hosting events, spreading the good word about Animal Friends’ work and raising critical funds. And, the celebration of this year’s class will be at Black Tie & Tails – one of Pittsburgh’s hottest galas!

The ’43 Friends participants will commit to raising at least $2,500 as an Individual, $3,500 as a Team of Two and $7,500 as a Family Team.

2019 Campaign Chair

Jim Krenn

This funny guy has held Animal Friends near and dear to his heart for decades. A hometown boy with friends – human and animal alike – all over this city, and we’re proud to announce him as our Chair for this year’s class of ’43 Friends.

Jim made his mark as Pittsburgh’s morning king where his characters and comedy remained a Pittsburgh staple on the air waves for 25 years.

Jim has recently become a greeting card writer. Along with his good friends, Larry Richert, Dick Roberts and Rob Rogers, Yinzer Cards were created. He’s one of Pittsburgh’s most acclaimed, recognizable and beloved entertainers … and we could not be more thrilled to call him one of our closest friends.
