What is Black Tie & Tails?
Black Tie & Tails is an annual gala that typically takes place each fall on Animal Friends’ campus in Ohio Township. Voted Best Gala in the ‘Burgh, Black Tie & Tails is Animal Friends’ signature event and largest fundraiser of the year.
Is Animal Friends still hosting Black Tie & Tails this year?
Yes! But, the event will take on a slightly different look as we present our first-ever virtual gala.
Why can’t you host an in-person event with masks and social distancing?
As we work to put together a fun and entertaining event, our number one priority is the health and safety of our guests, volunteers and staff members. We are hard at work planning a virtual event that you can enjoy by yourself, with your family or with a small group of close friends from the comfort (and safety!) of your home.
Can I host my own Watch Party?
We want to encourage our community to come together to support Animal Friends’ lifesaving work – while staying as safe as possible, of course. So, yes! We are hoping that you will host a Watch Party. Whether it is a party with several of your friends or just you and your pets, we want you to celebrate with us! We are offering Party Boxes at several of the ticket levels that will be packed full of items to help you celebrate Black Tie & Tails with your own Watch Party. If you choose to host a Watch Party, let us know so we can contact you and provide guidance and answer any questions you may have.
Is the event only one night?
Black Tie & Tails will be a one-night, one-hour event that will be accessible through a video link on Saturday, Sept. 26. But, once the event ends, you can watch the gala again and again!
Do I have to buy a ticket?
To tune in for this year’s Black Tie & Tails, you will need to purchase a ticket – all proceeds directly benefit Animal Friends’ programs and services. There are three different ticket levels available – all of which will give you access to the virtual gala.
How do I watch the event?
Once you have purchased your ticket, you will receive an email with more information about the event and how to prepare for your Watch Party. On the day of the gala, you will receive a link that you can use to access the video from any device that has internet access.
Will I be able to watch Black Tie & Tails on my TV?
If you have a smart TV or can connect an internet-enabled device to your television, you can watch Black Tie & Tails right on your TV screen! You can also tune in on your phone, tablet, laptop, desktop or any other smart device – all you need is the watch link.
Will I still be able to meet the adoptable animals?
You may not be rubbing noses with our adoptable animal residents at Black Tie & Tails this year, but there will be plenty of four-legged fun on your screen to enjoy. And, if you’re hosting a Watch Party, one of our adoptable animals just might stop by for a special appearance!
What about food and drinks?
Although we won’t be serving the delectable hors d’oeuvres, scrumptious feast and tasty desserts, we encourage you to put your own spin on this year’s festivities! Create your own dinner menu for two, pull out the stops with a multi-course meal with friends or keep it simple with a backyard family barbecue. This year is your chance to make Black Tie & Tails your own and celebrate your way!
Will I still get a swag bag?
Some of our ticket packages include Party Boxes that will include many of the items you know and love from our Black Tie & Tails swag bags. The Party Boxes will include gifts from our sponsors, a few goodies from Animal Friends and plenty of other fun surprises to help you celebrate in style!
How do I get my Party Box?
You can pick up your Party Box at Animal Friends or choose to have it delivered* to your Black Tie & Tails Watch Party … wherever you may be watching!

Is there still an auction?
Although we will not be hosting a Live Auction as part of this year’s Black Tie & Tails, we are pleased to offer an irresistible Online Auction that will feature many of the same incredible packages that would be available during our in-person Silent Auction.
Should I dress up?
This year is your chance to wear whatever you like to Black Tie & Tails. Whether you’re dusting off the formal attire you haven’t been able to wear for months or you’re keeping it casual in your comfy pants, this might be the first black tie event you attend without a dress code!
