Animal Friends' Chow Wagon program was founded in April 2007 with the mission of providing assistance to people in the Pittsburgh area. Its goal is to help pet-owning families keep their furry family members, even during challenging economic times, by providing them with pet food. In these tough times, Chow Wagon enables dogs, cats and rabbits to stay in their loving homes and receive the nourishment they need. Click here to learn how you can help!
The Community Need
The first time one of our clients saw canned cat food on the shelf at his local food pantry he was overjoyed. The man had been taking six to eight cans of tuna each time he visited the pantry so that he could feed his cat at home.
The need is clear. Even in times of financial hardship, people will sacrifice food for themselves in order to feed the pets they love. By forming partnerships with community food pantries, Chow Wagon enables thousands of people to keep their furry friends' bellies full.
Who We Serve
Our Chow Wagon currently serves 29 different food pantries and two Meals on Wheels programs in three counties. In order to receive pet food from these pantries, members of the public must first become a client of that particular pantry.
To find out if one of our partner food pantries is in your area, please call 412.847.7081.
We could not fulfill our mission without the support of our many wonderful volunteers, food pantry partners and donors. Thank you for your dedication and unwavering support to the people and pets throughout our community.
To make a donation, simply drop off unopened bags or cans of dog, cat or rabbit food to the Chow Wagon collection box in Animal Friends' lobby. We also happily accept treats, toys and cat litter!
