The 2021 Pittsburgh Marathon has gone virtual!

Back Half Marathon

Plus, brand new for the 2021 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events, P3R is proud to introduce the “Back Half.” Every year, thousands of runners complete the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, many of them running the race multiple years. But unless those runners want to run the complete 26.2-mile DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon course, they never get to see the second half of the course. 2021 is the year that changes for 500 lucky and dedicated half marathoners. Raise $1,500 for Team Animal Friends before May  31 to secure your spot at the start line at the first-ever UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh BACK Half Marathon, but the inaugural event will be in 2022! For more than 75 years, Animal Friends has been pounding the pavement and setting the pace for humane programming in the Pittsburgh region. Right out of the gate, we served as a humble matchmaking service for homeless pets. Today, we have evolved into a full-service animal resource community.

Year after year, we continue to establish our personal best by providing shelter, care and placement for more than 2,600 homeless pets annually – just like we’re doing for Frannie, Casper and Rita Hayworth. And, we’re proud to offer our nationally recognized programs that include aggressive spay/neuter services, low-cost vaccines, humane education, behavior classes, pet therapy and so much more!

Frannie came to Animal Friends when her owner could no longer care for her. While in our care she sustained an injury to her leg, and thanks to generous donors like you, our Medical team was able to perform a special surgery to get her feeling her best and ready to find her new family!

When Casper first came to Animal Friends he moved into our cat cottage with several other feline roommates who were more fearful of people. These cats preferred the company of other cats and we thought Casper was no different. But when a medical issue required him to recover in a more comfortable setting, he moved into our Volunteer office. As he settled in to his new living space, he started to come out of his shell and his true personality began to shine.

Rita Hayworth is part of a large group of rabbits who came to Animal Friends earlier this year. Shortly after they arrived, we found that several of them were pregnant and within just days, began to give birth to litters. In fact, Rita is the mother of her own brood of bunnies here at Animal Friends!

So please, join us to run for their lives … it will make your runner’s high that much more worthwhile.
