Animal Friends’ Adoption Counselors are here for you!
Have you decided to add a furry family member to your household? You have? Great! This lifelong commitment involves serious decision making, and there are lots of things to take into consideration. Whether this is your first companion animal or if you are a well-seasoned pet owner, Animal Friends’ adoption counselors are here to help you!
At any given time, Animal Friends cares for a minimum of 250 animals on site and many more in foster homes, all of whom are waiting for their forever home.This population consists of dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and rabbits of various breeds, ages, sizes, temperaments, and medical backgrounds. But, the one thing they have in common is that they all need a loving home! That’s where you come in!
You can visit many of these animals on Animal Friends’ adoption floor. The others are awaiting medical and behavioral clearances, so we can provide potential adopters with more information about the animals’ needs.
At Animal Friends, we understand that there are many places from where one can adopt, rescue, or purchase a companion animal. We believe that you will be very satisfied if you choose to adopt from Animal Friends.
The goal of our Adoption Department is to find as many homes for homeless animals as we possibly can. Sadly, every day, we meet homeless animals who need and deserve a second chance. However, because of our “no-kill” tradition, we always need to wait for available kennel space before admitting the next animal.
And so, the more animals that are adopted from Animal Friends, the more animals we are able to admit, and therefore more lives are saved! So, ultimately, by adopting an animal from Animal Friends, not only are you saving the adopted animal’s life, you are saving the life of the animal who will move into the adopted animal’s kennel space…and you are a “humane hero!”
Furthermore, we believe that you will find much comfort in our adoption process. We understand that each adopter has an individual lifestyle, and the same is true of all of the animals waiting for their forever home. The adoption counselors at Animal Friends are always excited to help you find the match that is best for you.
Again, since it is the goal for Animal Friends to find as many forever homes as possible, it is ideal for all of our matches to be lifelong. In working together to find that match, it is very important for us to first get information about you, your household, and your lifestyle. Then, we can share suggested matches with you elaborating on the animal’s lifestyle, needs, characteristics, and background.
Once we’ve found a lifestyle match, it’s time for a Meet and Greet! It is best when all members of the household are present, sometimes even other 4-legged members! Your counselor will guide you through the next steps that need to be taken according to each individual situation.
After a successful Meet and Greet, your counselor will review with you upcoming medical care needs; identification tag and microchipping (both provided by Animal Friends); diet; housetraining; and more…everything you and your new family member need to have a successful, happy, and loving life together.
It doesn’t end there! Counselors are available at any time during your new family member’s lifetime to answer any questions or as needed to refer you to other resources such as Animal Friends’ behavior or medical departments. In fact, they will also follow up with adopters a few days, a few weeks, and a few months post-adoption just to see how everything is going. (They also love to get pictures!) We want to do everything we can to make this an outstanding, quality situation for all involved.
